La glucosa aumenta despu\u00e9s de las comidas y proporciona energ\u00eda a nuestras c\u00e9lulas tras ser absorbida con la ayuda de la insulina, una hormona producida y secretada por las c\u00e9lulas \u03b2 del islote de Langerhans situado en el p\u00e1ncreas. Para disminuir estas cifras, es imperativo investigar qu\u00e9 factores causan la diabetes y entender c\u00f3mo lo hacen. Esto nos permitir\u00eda intervenir y prevenir su aparici\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">La probabilidad de convertirse en diab\u00e9tico incluye la predisposici\u00f3n gen\u00e9tica individual y los factores ambientales que desencadenan la aparici\u00f3n de la enfermedad. No podemos cambiar nuestros genes pero nuestro ambiente s\u00ed. Cambi\u00e1ndolo podemos prevenir o al menos, retrasar la diabetes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">El ambiente a nivel celular abarca m\u00faltiples factores, que van desde la composici\u00f3n nutricional hasta la presencia de contaminantes qu\u00edmicos. Un grupo de estos contaminantes son especialmente importantes en la etiolog\u00eda de la diabetes. Son los conocidos como disruptores endocrinos (DEs). A diario, la poblaci\u00f3n est\u00e1 expuesta a dosis baja de DEs . Algunos DEs aumentan la probabilidad de padecer diabetes de forma indirecta porque causan obesidad, pero los DEs tambi\u00e9n da\u00f1an las c\u00e9lulas \u03b2 y causan resistencia a la insulina en diferentes tejidos. As\u00ed pues, muchos DEs son diabet\u00f3genas por derecho propio.
