La glucosa augmenta despr\u00e9s de la ingesta i proporciona energia a les nostres c\u00e8l\u00b7lules despr\u00e9s de ser absorbida amb l&#8217;ajuda de la insulina, una hormona produ\u00efda i secretada per les c\u00e8l\u00b7lules-\u03b2 del&#8217;illot de Langerhans situat en el p\u00e0ncrees. Quan les c\u00e8l\u00b7lules-\u03b2 no produeixen suficient insulina, o la senyalitzaci\u00f3 de la insulina est\u00e0 disminu\u00efda, es produeixen nivells de glucosa en sang excessivament alts. Per a disminuir aquestes xifres, \u00e9s imperatiu investigar quins factors causen la diabetis i entendre com ho fan. Aix\u00f2 ens permetria intervindre i previndre la seua aparici\u00f3. La probabilitat de convertir-se en diab\u00e8tic inclou la predisposici\u00f3 gen\u00e8tica individual i els factors ambientals que desencadenen l&#8217;aparici\u00f3 de la malaltia. Els gens no poden modificar-se, per\u00f2 l&#8217;entorn s\u00ed, i canviant l&#8217;entorn podem previndre o retardar la diabetis. Podem definir l&#8217;entorn com tot el que no \u00e9s el genoma. Implica m\u00faltiples factors, des de la nutrici\u00f3 fins als contaminants qu\u00edmics. Hi ha un grup de contaminants qu\u00edmics que s\u00f3n especialment importants en l&#8217;etiologia de la diabetis, els anomenats disruptors endocrins (DEs). Estem exposats a dosis baixes de DEs di\u00e0riament. Alguns DEs augmenten la probabilitat de patir diabetis de manera indirecta perqu\u00e8 causen obesitat, per\u00f2 els DEs tamb\u00e9 afecten negativament les c\u00e8l\u00b7lules-\u03b2 i causen resist\u00e8ncia a la insulina en diferents teixits. Aix\u00ed doncs, moltes DEs s\u00f3n diabet\u00f2gens per dret propi. Glucose rises after meals and provides energy to our cells after being absorbed with the help of insulin, a hormone produced and secreted by the \u03b2-cells of the islet of Langerhans located in the pancreas. To decrease these numbers, it is imperative to investigate what factors cause diabetes and to understand how they do so. This would allow us to intervene and prevent its onset.<\/span><\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The probability of becoming diabetic includes individual genetic predisposition and environmental factors that trigger the onset of the disease. Genes cannot be modified, but the environment can, and by changing the environment we can prevent or delay diabetes.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We can define the environment as everything but the genome. It encompasses multiple factors, from nutrition to chemical pollutants. There is a group of chemical pollutants that are especially important in the etiology of diabetes, the so-called endocrine disruptors or endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs). We are exposed to low doses of EDCs on a daily basis.
